HOW TO APPLY

Furniture and stairs

  1. Sand the surface scratch-free. Finish with screening net 100 to 150, the color intensity depends on the sanding method used.
    • When renovating, you must remove all the residues from previous treatments completely (varnish, oil, wax, etc.).
  2. Vacuum thoroughly and eliminate remains of dust with Rubio Monocoat Cleaner. Wait until the surface is completely dry
(check the technical datasheet of the Cleaner before use).
  3. Stir the product thoroughly and regularly with a stirring stick.
  4. Apply an amount of Rubio Monocoat Precolor Easy with the Rubio Monocoat Brush and spread out using a red Rubio Monocoat Scrubby Pad. Wipe out evenly with a lint-free cloth. Work in small areas to avoid overlapping.
    • For smaller objects and corners you can also use the green Rubio Monocoat Mouse Pad.
  5. Allow the surface to dry for ± 12 hours. The exact drying time depends on the foundation, moistening, temperature and ventilation.
  6. After drying, break the raised wood fibres with a red Scrubby Pad and vacuum afterwards.
  7. Now apply the Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C. Please consult the technical data sheet of the oil for a correct application. Be careful, in combination with Precolor Easy it is best to use a white Scrubby Pad instead of a beige or red one when applying the oil!

Floors

  1. Sand the surface scratch-free. Finish with screening net 100, the color intensity depends on the sanding method used.
  3. Tape off areas of ± 90 cm, in the lengthwise direction of the boards.
  4. Stir the product thoroughly and regularly with a stirring stick.
  5. Apply the Rubio Monocoat Precolor Easy with a Rubio Monocoat Microfiber Pad. Make sure to use enough of the product and cover the whole area. Afterwards smooth out the area again with the same Microfiber Pad. Make sure that this pad is thoroughly wrung out.
  6. Now skip an area and follow the instructions in step 5 again for this next area. Finish the whole room in this way and remove the tape. Allow the surface to dry for ± 12 hours.
  7. Now tape off the untreated areas and apply the Precolor Easy as described in step 5. Repeat until the whole floor is treated. Afterwards remove the tape
(tip: step on the already dried-out areas to remove the tape).
  8. Allow the surface to dry for ± 12 hours. The exact drying time depends on the foundation, moistening, temperature and ventilation.
  9. After drying, break the raised wood fibres with a floor polisher equipped with a red Rubio Monocoat Pad and vacuum afterwards.
  10. Now apply the Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C. Please consult the technical data sheet of the oil for a correct application. Be careful, in combination with Precolor Easy it is best to use a white Pad instead of a beige or red one when applying the oil!

Tips & Tricks

  • Stir the product well before application.
  • When using several containers at one site, it is required to mix them for an even result.
  • Switch off the floor heating 48 hours before application.
  • Do not use in combination with water-based finishing products, such as Rubio Invisible Protector.
  • Difficult to apply on herringbone parquet.
  • Keep in mind that the wood type, grain structure and porosity of the wood can influence the end result. Therefore, it is important to make a sample first on the chosen wood species or the surface that needs treating.

Precolor Easy FAQs

Can Precolor Easy be used on an exterior application with Hybrid Wood Protector over it?

Precolor Easy is designed exclusively for interior applications and in combination with Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C finish.

If Precolor is applied and I don't want to change the color, which Oil Plus 2C should be applied?

Pure, is non pigmented, so that would be the recommended Oil. It will warm the wood tone slightly after applying, so keep that in mind.

Can more than one application be made of precolor easy?

Adding additional Precolor Easy could limit the ability of Oil Plus 2C to molecularly bond with the wood. We always recommend making a sample with a single application of Precolor Easy and finishing with Oil Plus 2C before starting any project.

Will Precolor Easy discolor epoxy?

Precolor Easy will most likely stain the epoxy, so we recommend applying it to the wood portion of the project only.
