Rubio Monocoat 2C Oil Plus is a natural and environmentally friendly oil. It creates an extremely durable finish, and enhances the natural beauty and grain of wood flooring. Maintaining an oil finished floor is simple, and when followed properly, your floor will look beautiful indefinitely.
Rubio Monocoat Oiled floors should be maintained regularly, but the process is easy. There should never be a need for moving heavy furniture for a re-coat or a messy re-sand. The only reason you would need to re-sand your flooring with a Monocoat finish would be if a color change is desired. Unlike with a topical urethane finish, where maintenance is messy and lengthy and re-sanding is necessary between applications.
Keeping Your Oil Finished Floor Clean
Once your floor is finished with Rubio Monocoat oil, you should allow a three-week cure period before cleaning with liquids. Keeping dirt and grit off a wood floor will greatly extend the life of any finish. You should place mats inside and outside all exterior doors and in front of sinks.
- Keeping your oiled floor clean is the first step to maintain and protect the oil finish. Vacuuming or sweeping to remove dirt and grit is regularly is an important step to protect the wood and oil finish, and will greatly extend the life of any finish. Place rugs or mats inside and outside all exterior doors, as well as in front of sinks. Scuff-marks can be easily removed by rubbing the spot with a tennis ball.
- Using a damp mop with clean water is sufficient for the regular cleaning of your oiled floor. Remember that wood and water do not mix, so damp mopping means your mop should not be “dripping wet” when cleaning a wood floor. Clean water will not always get your floor clean.
- Rubio Monocoat Natural Soap should be used at least 3 or 4 times per year on your oiled floor. The soap will remove all dirt and grease thoroughly, without leaving a film or affecting the matte natural look of the wood. Apply the soap and water mixture using a damp mop. Natural Soap is mixed at a ratio of 40:1. One liter of Natural Soap will make 1–20 gallons of cleaning solution. You can also use Rubio Monocoat Surface Care Spray, which contains Natural Soap in a premixed, easy to use spray bottle. This is especially useful for spot cleaning.

Refreshing and Rejuvenating, an Oil Finished Floor
Rubio Monocoat Oil is composed of natural ingredients. It is sustainable, renewable, and completely environmentally friendly. Since no artificial toxic hardeners are used to increase the durable life of the finish, periodic rejuvenation is necessary, usually between 2 and 6 years. The use of Rubio Monocoat Renew will extend the time period.
High traffic areas like the inside of entrance doors, hallways, and around kitchen cabinets wear faster than the rest of your floor. Over time, they can develop “dry” spots as the finish wears away. The worn spots will appear dry or rough. These areas can be renewed individually whenever necessary using Rubio Monocoat Renew. If the color of the surface is affected, you will need to use Rubio Monocoat 2C Oil in the original color.
Renew is a ready-to-use revitalizing treatment oil that absorbs into and restores the oil finish. It is very easy to apply. Simply wipe Renew onto the dry area, leave it to react for a few minutes, and wipe dry. Using Renew when necessary will extend the time span between complete reapplications and will increase the life of the finish.

Pets and Oiled Wood Floors
Pets can be a challenge for any flooring surface. Scratches and accidents are inevitable when you have pets in the home. Accidents, when left unattended, will eventually mar the look of your floor. As long as the wood itself is not damaged, spots can be topically repaired using Rubio Monocoat 2C Oil Plus. Repair and restoration from both accidents or scratches is much easier and more affordable since you can treat the spots themselves instead of addressing the entire floor. This is not possible with a traditional urethane topcoat system.
